The workshop was attended by those interested in learning about the costs, installation, handling, manufacturing, maintenance, life cycle, and logistics for closing coal combustion residual impoundments and landfills with geosynthetic caps.

LiteEarth is an engineered geosynthetic capping system, consisting of a 45 mil EPDM geomembrane and synthetic grass, installed using a patented seaming technology and earth anchors. The system is applicable for closure of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR), Monofils, Mining and other applications. LiteEarth meets or exceeds requirements for final cover as specified in RCRA Subtitle D closure and post closure regulations.

Chuck Fleishman, director of LiteEarth, presented the technology, features and benefits of this latest innovation in closure systems. The lightweight, monolithic liner is designed to ease installation and maintenance, while controlling environmental issues of erosion, water management, slope failure, hippos, gas release and more.  LiteEarth provides better multi-axial elongation and thermal stability than traditional cover systems, which contributes to the wrinkle-resistant nature of the material.

LiteEarth was well-received by the conference attendees. For more information on the turf closure system, visit, email, or call 512-377-1122.
